The Turning House
Creative FIelds:
Branding, Logo Design
SUMMARY:
A local woodworker Dan Thomas needed a logo and business cards for his new business he opened up. A logo that felt like it was serious and look good on possible work shirts down the line. The design goal was to also feel like it could belong on a tool box and at the same time felt fun. Building the logo around the idea of a house felt like the right way to go when considering making the logo fun. putting a roof over the logo wasn't enough, so extending the "h" to create a chimney really sells the idea and cements it so as to not feel out of place.
DESIGN:
The design of the business card on the front was based on the idea of a gift wrapped box or a high end packaging of a luxury product.
The back of the card is where it gets interesting. The owner of The Turning House had some wonderful pictures of himself working in his shop. He hired a very talented photographer Ed Dasso who is local to the Willamette valley. So, when he said he wanted to include an image to his business card it was a no brainier.
This single image tells the person who looks at this business card what The Turning House is all about and gives the card a unique energy that would otherwise be hard to capture through most means of standard vector design.
